How Not to Look Like a Tool at This Season's Hottest Music Festival

Coachella season is here, y'all, which means the greatest congregation of hippie-chic style is about to commence!

That of course also means that we're going to be overwhelmed with ensembles that feature superfluous fringe, American flags where the sun don't shine and more tired, tool-ish festival gear that we've become accustomed to from the Indio fête over the years.

But not to worry, we have some fool-proof fashion rules for you to follow so you don't fall into the festival tool trap. E! News' own Orly Shani and stylist Anita Patrickson gave us the scoop on which trends to rock and which to, well, never ever pack for Coachella.

1. ReDone Handcrafted Levis: Sure, Levi's have never quite gone out of style, but now they're bigger than ever! ReDone is an incredible company that handcrafts the perfect pair of jeans from Vintage Levi's. They adjust the proportions to be on trend for today's style and strategically distress or add patches to enhance a woman's figure. These will be the most perfect Levi's you've ever worn.

2. Punchcase Gigi Power Raffia: Your phone battery is sure to hover around five percent due to all your super-awesome peace sign selfies. Well, I have good news kiddies! When you're not capturing every moment, keep your phone in your bag...charging! This adorable, Aztec printed crossbody has a built in phone charger so you'll be covered all night.

3. Old Gringo Leather Phone Case: This is my absolute favorite use of fringe! The phone case has a leather cross body strap so you'll be free to dance and frolick around that desert. There are slots for your credit cards, cash and ultra- long fringe detail to give you just the right amount of indie-chic.

4. Will.i.am Sunglasses: Sunglasses are a major part of our #OOTD and a killer pair is necessary for the hot desert sun. These new sunnies by Will.i.am and Slick Rick just launched, which means you will be one of the first to rock his incredible new collection.

5. Tuc+Wes Everything Scarf: This scarf rolls up into a tiny ball but is large enough to become a shawl, kimono, sarong, turban or bandana. The conditions at Coachella change every year—so with a versatile scarf like this one, you'll be ready for anything. Plus it's red, white and blue plaid giving you that ‘murica vibe without all the tooliness of American flag knee socks.

6. Opera Binoculars: I found the most amazing pair of shiny white-and-gold mini binoculars with a gold chain necklace. Wear it as an ironic piece or use them as binoculars to see the actual show! Either way, it's guaranteed to be one of your most favorite—and useful—accessories.

7. Old Gringo Ankle Boots: I'm all for comfy shoes, but in the desert, sandals leave you with nasty, filthy, dusty feet. These boots have distressed leather and a rugged sole that you won't mind destroying, plus the studded detail and metallic paint look awesome with every outfit.

8. Enfants Riches Deprimes Not Stoned Tee: Enfants Riches Deprimes has been rocked by the likes of Jared Leto, Rita Ora and Beyoncé. The pieces have that perfect distressed quality of your favorite vintage tee and this particular graphic seems super appropriate, no?

9. Booby Pack White Crop Top: Now, this is a tank top with a purpose. A hidden zipper pouch will fit your phone, money and keys so you can go hands-free all night. The flower detail glows in the dark for a little extra Coachella-ness and it's waterproof because... ya know?

10. Alternative Apparel Floral Hoodie: Whether they're on headbands, maxi dresses or body paint you're bound to see flowers galore at Coachella. This hoodie is a cozy, warm and unique alternative. Adorn your flowers on an otherwise masculine sweatshirt instead of a fake floral crown!

11. Lack of Color Fedora: We've been seeing these super structured, wide brim fedoras on our favorite fashion It Girls like Kendall Jenner, Anna Della Russo andMiranda Kerr. The floppy 60s hat is gone and the wide-brim fedora is in! These Lack of Color hats come in the perfect range of colors to complement your festival look.

Aishwarya, Irrfan and Deepika make it to HT Mumbai's Most Stylish list

Here's a look at B-Town personalities who are set to receive special awards at HT Mumbai's Most Stylish.

Global icon (female)

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: The former Miss World is a fashion icon for millions around the world. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan started her Bollywood career in 1997 and, in no time, she had made a mark as a style diva in India, and internationally. Donning one exquisite couture dress after another, her red carpet appearances at the Cannes Film Festival have always been headturners. She also used the French festival as a platform to silence those who criticised her post-pregnancy weight, when she stepped out in a stunning gown last year, oozing confidence.

Global icon (male)

Irrfan Khan: You can always count on a film starring Irrfan Khan to be critically acclaimed - be it his Bollywood projects or his Hollywood flicks. He is just as consistent when it comes to his sartorial choices. The suave actor has a signature style. He sticks to formulaic wardrobe staples, rarely venturing out of his comfort zone, but no one's complaining. Despite casually favouring jeans with T-shirts or shirts, and black suits at formal events, he wins our approval for always being well-turned-out, looking his sophisticated best.

Woman of substance

Deepika Padukone: This award is not being presented to Deepika Padukone for her stunning style sense, or for the way she carries herself with such elegance. It is meant to applaud her courage. It is to recognise the strength she has shown in fighting her own demons. Earlier this year, Deepika admitted to suffering from depression. But she didn't let it mar her spirit. She fought hard, and, more importantly, she shared her experience with the world in a bid to give other sufferers hope and strength. That's why, for us, she is a woman of substance.

Most stylish import

Ali Zafar: This Pakistani singer and Bollywood actor's good looks paired with his smart and quirky sense of style make him a favourite among the ladies. Ali Zafar enjoys reinventing his style quotient whenever he can, and his red carpet appearances prove that. Over the years, the confidence with which he has pulled off a moustached look, a French beard, and a variety of different hairstyles proves that he is indeed the Most Stylish Import the country has seen.

From L to R: Ali Zafar, Varun Dhawan, Shraddha Kapoor.

Breakthrough star

Varun Dhawan: He is all of five films old, but even in that brief time, Varun Dhawan has portrayed an interesting array of characters on the big screen. And using these roles, he has unknowingly created fashion trends that have been a rage among young Bollywood fans. When he isn't working, Varun opts for well-fitted T-shirts, sporty jackets and fashionable footwear. He uses his lean physique to his advantage and ensures that he looks his best in casual as well as formal wear - be it western or traditional.

Readers' choice (female)

Shraddha Kapoor: Being a star kid, and having grown up among celebrities seems to have taught Shraddha Kapoor one valuable lesson - never step out looking sloppy. The actor doesn't follow trends. Her mantra is different, as she opts for comfort. Whether it is skirts and dresses, or a variety of Indian wear, she has used these to establish her signature style statement. Casually, she is often seen rocking a sporty look, which she styles with layered apparel and funky high-top sneakers.

Readers' choice (male)

Sidharth Malhotra: The younger crop of Bollywood actors clearly realises the importance of looking good off screen. Among them is Sidharth Malhotra. You would usually spot him in jeans, printed T-shirts and occasionally a cap, but he cleans up pretty well for formal outings too. What makes Sidharth stand out is his ability to pull off a variety of looks. From clean-shaven to bearded and lean to buff, we've seen him undergo transformations for his roles, and he has made each look work for him.

From L to R: Sidharth Malhotra and Ayushmann Khurrana.

Youth icon

Ayushmann Khurrana: As a reality show winner, a former VJ and an actor, Ayushmann Khurrana's cool style statement has had a major influence on the country's youth. What works in the Bollywood actor's favour is that he is always willing to experiment with his looks. Even with formal wear, he is open to wearing bright colours, and carrying off timeless fabrics like corduroy and velvet, that many are hesitant to try. His confidence, comic timing and singing skills only add to his personality.

2015 Fashion Show designer spotlight: Denman & Haro by Gurjit Parmar

Inspired by her father, Gurjit Parmar created Denman & Haro to be a technical collection for the mature professional man. The collection is minimal but breathes luxury and style while still maintaining technical superiority. Created to balance a lifestyle of professional meetings and days off in unpredictable weather, the line offers a variety of stylish solutions, from collared shirts and Merino wool trousers to polo shirts and sleek technical outerwear.

A true Vancouverite who enjoys calming down after a long day of sewing and drafting with a long run, Parmar seems to have captured a large target market with her line. While most new designers look to entertain millennials, this designer hasn’t forgotten about the large population of baby boomers looking for clothes that help balance work and play in a city that encourages both.

Denman & Haro will be unveiled at the 2015 Fashion Show, presented by Tamoda Apparel, on April 9 at the River Rock Casino. Thirty-eight other lines by KPU fashion design and technology students will also be showcased. For event details, visit kpu.ca/2015fashionshow, or follow @kpu_theshow on Twitter and @theshow2015 on Instagram.

Thérèse MacCallum: How would you describe Denman & Haro?

Gurjit Parmar: A technical men’s collection that melds contemporary men’s fashion with technical components and properties. It is for the mature working professional man between the ages of 50 and 60. He leads a successful career and has strong values and emotional connections with his family.

TM: What was the inspiration behind the collection?

GP: Growing up I was always very close with my father so I learnt a lot about menswear in my early childhood. I was always very fascinated with men’s clothing and most particularly with my dad’s wardrobe. So when I first entered the KPU program four years ago, I knew I wanted to develop my final collection for business professional men, baby boomers, specifically. My dad and his wardrobe were my inspiration and having such a close bond really helped me to better understand my collection and the process.

TM: Tell us a bit about your design and creative process.

GP: My design and creative process is very minimalistic, linear, contemporary, and clean. I’m very technical so a lot of my designing happens on the computer—pulling tears from blogs, websites Style Sight to really help get my creative juices flowing. I spent a lot of time talking to my market and visiting higher-end retail stores to help develop the full collection.

TM: What have you taken away from your experience at KPU?

GP: I have learnt so much during my time at KPU; a lot that I have been able to put to use during my internships and industry positions. I focused a lot of my attention during my last two years on better understanding pattern drafting and the technical aspects of design. I’ve also learnt that I need to be open to learning new things and just really explore the different facets of fashion and design.

TM: What are your plans after graduation?

GP: Plans for after graduation are to obtain a job working for a technical apparel company doing production here in Vancouver. I’d like to get some experience under my belt before I take the leap into pursuing my masters.

TM: What is a passion you have outside of fashion?

GP: I’m extremely passionate about running and fitness. This is my hobby outside of school. I made a huge lifestyle change about eight years ago and decided to lose a ton of weight and really boost my self-confidence. Before or after a long day of sewing and drafting, I love going out for a nice long calming run.
